RICHMOND OCTOBER 11TH

The following day, the big attraction was the Richmond Castle 10k. This hilly course starts on a park area known as The Batts, passes the spectacular Richmond Falls and on leaving Richmond there are good views of the castle. The race eventually finishes in the castle grounds.

There were no PBs in this challenging course, but Dez Fielden finished in a commendable 7th position in 38:09, followed by John Surtees, 16th in 38:51 and Tracy Surtees, 57th in 44:46. YORK OCTOBER 11TH

On the same day three members of the club opted for the longer distance of the marathon. This was the Yorkshire Marathon. A popular and picturesque race with good PB potential, it takes runners past some of Yorkshire’s splendid historic sights and along scenic country lanes.

Susan Cranswick ran an outstanding race on her marathon debut, recording 3:46:28. Sandra Collins was next to finish in 4:07:02. Finally, Rob Nicholson, veteran of many marathons completed the course in 4:13:56.
