ARC Race Report – Week 6 – 11th February 2020

Away from racing, this week saw Aycliffe Running Club participate in a campaign set up by England Athletics. The Time To Talk Day is a campaign set up to help promote positive mental health that can be achieved through running and is supported by Mind. The Time to Talk Day was on Thursday 6th February. The idea is to encourage people to go out and run socially and talk to others. ARC therefore arranged two successful run and talk sessions on Wednesday 5thwith one taking place during the day and another on the evening.

Turning to racing it was a weekend of Parkrun PB’s this weekend with several members achieving PB’s at various different venues.

At Shildon Parkrun, Corey Horn achieved a PB for that course in a time of 20.14, at Sedgefield, Nici Ingman obtained achieved a course PB of 31.08 and Sandra Rudd 32.27 and finally over in Darlington, Hannah Richardson obtained a PB for that course in a time of 35.24.

This weekend also saw two members racing unusually on Saturday night. Husband and wife, Richard and Kathleen Tonge took part in the Souter 7k night run at Whitburn. This is a race that is organised by the National Trust. They ran this together in very windy conditions in a time of 57.29.

Unfortunately the cross country racing that was due to take place on Sunday was cancelled due to the bad weather conditions and so it was a quieter week than it should have been in terms of racing.

For anyone interested in joining the club, you can simply turn up at one of our sessions all of which start from the Oakleaf Complex in Newton Aycliffe. Monday night is beginners run at 6.30p.m., Tuesday is endurance/speed session from 7.00 p.m., and Thursday is a track session and this takes place at Shildon Track. Further details can be found on our website or facebook pages or alternatively you can message the club via facebook for more information.
