During the latest period of lockdown, Members have kept active by participating in several Club competitions, including an off-road Mile event and a team distance challenge, all of which have been held ‘virtually’ and in accordance with both Government and England Athletics’ guidelines.
This week, however, has seen the return of organised sporting activity and two Members were quick off the mark when it came to resuming racing.
On Sunday, 6 December 2020, David STOTHARD ‘doubled up’, taking on two local races in one day. David’s day started at the Run Durham Dalton Park Winter 10K, which was a multi-terrain race around the regional shopping outlet. David completed his run in at time of 57:13.
David then headed down the road to Cowpen Bewley Woodland Park to participate in the Gavin Duffy Memorial 5K Trail Race, an annual event held in remembrance of a popular local runner, who tragically lost his life in 2013, at just 29 years of age. The race featured staggered starts across the day, in order to maintain a Covid Secure environment, and David crossed the line in a time of 31:02.
Further South on Sunday, Matthew SOMMERVILLE completed the Running Grand Prix Goodwood Half Marathon, which was held at the classic motor racing circuit in West Sussex. Matthew came home in an official time of 1:45.57, which represented his fastest time over the distance to date.
