New Covid-19 restrictions were introduced in the North East this week, however fortunately organised sporting or licensed physical activity is still permitted where Clubs and event organisers have adopted the published guidance on how to operate safely issued by that sport’s governing body, in our case, England Athletics.
In addition to the Senior Section starting in August, Aycliffe Junior Running Club returned at the start of September. It has been lovely to see the children back training and giving it their all after such a long time off.
We would like to express our gratitude towards the Newton Aycliffe Sports Club for allowing our Junior Running Club athletes to train at their fantastic facility. We have found it challenging to find a venue in which our athletes can train in a ‘Covid Secure Environment’. The Club have been very supportive and we cannot thank them enough. Races and events are still few and far between, of course, and this week saw only one Senior race performance to report. Andy TALBOT took advantage of the delayed track season, travelling to Hexham on Saturday, 19th September 2020, to participate in the Tynedale Open Track and Field Meeting.
Andy had a solid run in the Masters 1500m race, crossing the line in an extremely creditable 5:12.62. In doing so, Andy came home first in his Age Category on the day, and set a new Club record for the distance in his Age Category.
