ARC RACE REPORT – Week 25 – 18th June 2019

The racing this past week started in what were atrocious conditions at two different races. Firstly two members attended the Newburn River Run in Northumberland. This was a 6 mile course in very wet conditions. Mark Bainbridge completed this in 47.26 and he was followed by John Richardson in 51.21.

There was also another race in the Tees Trail series taking place over at Pinchinthorpe near Guisborough. Again the conditions were unfavourable and were very wet and foggy. We had four members who braved the weather to run here. First home was Stuart Joyce in 21.24, followed by Sue Milburn in 26.00, Trish Kay in 26.52 and Ray Todd in 38.46.

The weekend however, saw most members of ARC swap running for marshalling as it was the time for the annual Aycliffe 10k race and fun run. This event takes place every Fathers Day and is a popular race in the area. Fortunately the weather had decided to be kind and the conditions were much better that the previous few days.

The morning begins with the 3k fun run which sees both children and adults take part. The race was won by Joshua Wraith of Durham City Harriers in 11.17, with his brother Thomas coming in second place in 11.35 and Tom O’Mahoney of Richmond and Zetland Harriers coming third in 12.40. There was also a good turn out of young runners from ARC Junior Section.

ARC do encourage most members to assist marshall but always encourage new members to run in the their first year with the club and we did therefore have a few runners take part. First home for ARC was Kevin Wilson in 49.40.

He was followed by John Richardson in a time of 51.43 by Heather Morgan in 53.54, Becki Pedelty in 59.42, Dave Thompson in 1.01.56, Tracey Pickering in 1.02.09, Hannah Richardson in 1.10.17, Jayne Rudd in 1.12.02, Cliff Pickering in 1.17.01 Marie Rudd in 1.21.23. Paul Dalton also ran the race in 37.20 but on this occasion he was running for his first team Quakers.
