We have been monitoring the situation with COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and how this will affect club activities.
In today’s press conference the Prime Minister said “now is the time for everyone to stop non-essential contact with others and to stop all unnecessary travel”.
This has clear implications for our activities, and I would like to explain how we are responding.
All club activities will be cancelled indefinitely. This includes our formal and informal sessions i.e. Monday, Tuesday (adult and junior), Wednesday and Sunday sessions from the Oakleaf and Thursday Shildon Track session.
We are aware that people use our members Facebook group to organise their own activities. We ask that no-one organises ‘same time, same place’ activities from the Oakleaf.
We ask that if government advice changes and activities are prohibited rather than only being discouraged, that the group is not used to organise anything against government advice. We will however not be policing this.
The social evening will be postponed, hopefully to be rescheduled for the autumn.
A personal message
We appreciate that this is a very worrying time for many people in our community, and at times like this people look to their running friends for support. We are sorry that we have no choice but to cancel our sessions for the foreseeable future, however we are not stopping the support that we as a community offer to each other.
The connections – and family – that we have made through Aycliffe Running Club support us through our running and personal challenges, and we know that this will not change through this next challenge.
We look forward to when we can run together again as a family.
