About Us

Whether you are just wanting to improve your general fitness, are an aspiring Olympic athlete, or fit somewhere between the two, why not come and join us?Group of people standing on concrete.

Training sessions are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, just turn up on either day and introduce yourself!

These sessions are generally held at the Oak Leaf Sports Complex, Newton Aycliffe, on Tuesday evenings at 19:00 and the Shildon Stadium 2000, on Thursday evenings at 18:15. All of the Club coaches give up their free time to coach club members with detailed risk assessments of all coaching activities having been undertaken to ensure the safety of all participants.

Training runs are sometimes held on Sunday mornings and these are communicated through email or announced at the training sessions.

Club subscriptions are payable on joining and are renewable annually in January. Club members are registered with the England Athletics, and are then “Attached Runners”, which makes entry to events cheaper and earns discount on purchases from many sports retailers.

The Club regularly competes in a number of national and regional leagues and events including the North Yorkshire and South Durham Winter Cross Country League and the North East, Northern and National XC Championships. We also compete in off road trail races, road races, and fell races such as The Tees Forest 5K series held during the summer on Thursday evenings. This is a popular series with many club members competing. We also organise a number of social outings where transport is hired to go to a specific race after which we enjoy refreshments (and sometimes even food!).

Club members are encouraged to take part in races with it being a requirement that runners competing on behalf of the Club purchase a club vest to compete in these events.

Please note: Aycliffe Running Club promotes equality and does not accept racism, bullying or sexism.
